I’ve had a weird relationship with womenswear for a while now. Not to generalize, but a lot of it feels too feminine, too girly, with too many ruffles, too many prints. I’ve already explained how I prefer pants to dresses at a 9 – 1 ratio, but something about this skirt and top surprisingly made me not want to run for the hills. The skirt, by Proenza Schouler, is menswear-inspired and features an asymmetrical trench coat wrapping detail as well as silver hardware along a tie belt. The top, by Phillip Lim, is oversized and similarly has circle details across the chest and sleeves. When I put the two together, with their analogous shapes and black and white color scheme, a sort of Gothic Lolita look made waves. I went ahead and rode this, pairing it with platform Docs and white laces. Reference the photos above and shop the bar below or visit our gyals at Gretta Luxe in Wellesley to pick up these items IRL.
